JF Scott Construction is a group of managers and supervisors who have worked together for the last 20 years on renovations and new construction for non-profit clients in the healthcare and college markets throughout Maine. From 2010 to 2013, these managers and supervisors worked collaboratively with the MaineGeneral Medical Center, designers, and construction partners to complete the Alfond Center for Health under budget and seven months ahead of schedule. The project exceeded expectations by expanding its scope and constructing higher levels of quality than originally anticipated. This was an extremely large project by Maine standards, yet many of the management techniques and team oriented approaches are directly applicable to more typical Maine projects in the $500,000- $2,000,000 range. Projects in this size range are more typical for us. We are highly collaborative, leverage technology, and strive to improve communications between the owners, designers, contractor and subcontractors. In the fall of 2013, we saw an opportunity to leverage what we had learned at MaineGeneral to improve construction delivery, and came together to form the core of JF Scott Construction.
Our clientele are often non-profit organizations. Many of our projects are state or federally funded, while others are funded through a private lender or a philanthropic contributor. We work closely with the owner to streamline the process and accommodate any special requests.
JF Scott Construction has an experienced and diverse crew. Our supervision is a mix of seasoned superintendents who worked their way up through labor and carpentry trades and younger superintendents with trade school and construction management degrees who wanted a bigger challenge than the residential work where their careers started. We have several experienced tradesmen who enjoy doing hands on work of their trade as well as younger individuals who are gaining experience they need to become tomorrow’s leaders.
The construction management philosophy at JF Scott Construction is simple. We are committed to the team to help balance competing project objectives. We play an active role in preconstruction planning, providing cost, schedule, and logistics feedback to the project team allowing informed decisions. The estimating process is continuous and transparent. The billing system is open book. We believe open and honest communication among the project team is the best avenue to success.
