The Ortho renovation was an occupied, two-phase project within the main facility, (Ludwig Health Center), requiring special attention to infection control and noise suppression. Although originally planned as a 22-week, single-phase project, the schedule was extended by only 11 weeks to split into two phases, allowing the department to remain functional without relocation. The Orthopedic department’s proximity created opportunities for regular check-ins, ensuring staff could provide their input on the final equipment placement. Improvements included demolition and rebuild of all interior partitions within the construction zone, new cabinetry and finishes. Added features include a fire-rated storage space for medications and 8 private office workspaces. Construction occurred from July 2022 to February 2023.
Started in August of 2023, this single-phase renovation on the second floor of the Biscone Medical Office Building was performed while the ground floor walk-in clinic remained active. Previously utilized as a Respiratory Center, the space was repurposed for Family Medicine and Diabetes/Anticoag services, with a community conference room for public health education. Improvements include rebuilding 85% of existing partitions, new cabinetry and finishes, a new Lab/Point-of-Care testing space, and a large Primary Care Team Room. Mid-project, it was determined that one of the boilers was no longer functioning, so the construction team immediately worked to facilitate speedy replacement of the boiler and all associated venting before critical temperatures set in. The project also added a “facelift” for 6 exam rooms, originally excluded from the scope. Despite the added scope, JFSCC finished on schedule (22 weeks) in December of 2023.
