Selected in 2021 by Northern Light to provide construction management services on the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, the JF Scott Construction team worked closely with the owner and designer to budget and plan this 21,400 sf facility. The 10 bed replacement hospital opened on schedule in August of 2023. Close coordination and a high level of communication was required to complete the work on an active hospital campus.
In 2013, JF Scott Construction was selected as the construction manager to be part of a unique Integrated Project Delivery process for MaineGeneral’s Thayer Center for Health Project. This project consists of $13 million of renovations and site work spread out over 130,000 square feet of a partially occupied hospital.  Preconstruction started in July 2013, with construction starting in November.  There were over 40 distinct departmental occupancies during the course of the project which also included relocation of the Main Entrance and expanded parking.
This $2M occupied, three phased renovation involved turning an underutilized office, gym, and other spaces into six additional patient rooms in the rehab unit. The work took place within and beneath occupied units, which was already operating at critically high census levels that necessitated the additional rooms. Despite the need for complex phasing and the logistics associated with healthcare construction during the height of Covid-19, the project was completed in just 35 weeks – on schedule and under budget.
This project included an addition and renovation to provide the LaFayette Cancer Institute a new USP 800 pharmacy. Work in the existing facility required close attention to infection control and interim life safety as the many patients of this facility are immunocompromised. The JF Scott Construction Team worked closely with the facilities, medical, ILSM, and infection control personnel to maintain proper barriers and pressures at the interface of construction. A temporary ambulance entrance had to be constructed and site logistics were critical on this busy operational campus.
In April of 2022, the JF Scott Construction team began a $6M multi phased renovation of the facilities in patient experience at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Phase 1 included a complete renovation of administration space into a New Maternity Suite. Subsequent phases included renovations to the former maternity department into new inpatient rooms, as well as PHVAC and cosmetic upgrades to most of the remaining inpatient rooms.
